August 2024 Newsletter

There is much goodness to share with you this month, and this fall. We hope you enjoy this update and encourage you to become involved in one of the many 'happenings' here at Door of Hope Ministries!

Introducing Two New Members
of Our Counseling Team!

We are thrilled to welcome two new people to our Door of Hope counseling team.  To see how God has woven this team together with the exact right people at the exact right time blesses us deeply.  We look forward to reaching many more individuals and families as we continue to partner with God to redeem lives and restore families around the world affected by trauma resulting from abuse and neglect.

A Warm Welcome to Denise Rickenbach

Denise is our Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist and Licensed Alcohol and Drug Counselor.
Here is a message from Denise:

Untitled%20design%20(1).png

I am excited and honored to partner with Door of Hope as a clinical counselor and Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist.  I began my journey into therapy with an interest in the field of addiction, working as a recovery coach in the women’s program at Minnesota Adult and Teen Challenge. It was there I became aware of the role trauma played in both addiction and mental health. I was further impacted as I saw how trauma, mental health problems, and addiction had relational consequences.

I received my master’s degree in Co-Occurring Disorders at Adler Graduate School in Minnetonka, Minnesota and practice as a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT) and a Licensed Alcohol and Drug Counselor (LADC). I specialize in identifying unhealthy patterns in relationships and coaching/teaching the often wounded and unskillful parts of individuals to create healthy and meaningful relationships with themselves and others. Other specialties include the treatment of Anxiety Disorders, Obsessive Compulsive Disorder, and Post Traumatic Stress Disorder.

I’ve trained in and utilize various modalities including; Accelerated Resolution Therapy (ART), Pragmatic/Experiential Therapy for Couples (PET-C), Rational Emotive Behavior Therapy (REBT) and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT).

I am married to my wonderful husband, Joe, of almost 37 years. I have 5 adult children as well as seven grandchildren ranging in age from newborn to 10 years old. My husband and I enjoy traveling together as well as just hanging out by the pool or playing with our grandchildren. Additionally, we have a large strawberry patch which is a fam favorite! I am also an avid knitter and love making special items for my loved ones to enjoy.

Because I have had my own journey with anxiety, my life verse is Isaiah 41:10:
“So do not fear, for I am with you: do not be dismayed for I am your God.
I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.”

It is my heart’s desire to use my training as a therapist to bring healing to those Image Bearers who have been negatively impacted by trauma, addiction, and mental health challenges.

A Warm Welcome to Gail Oakes

Gail Oakes is a new counselor at Door of Hope.

Untitled%20design%20(2).png

Gail brings much experience to Door of Hope! She worked as an Occupational Therapist for 19 years with people with CVAs, traumatic brain injury, neurological issues, burns, and other physical disabilities. In 1996, she completed a Masters in Counseling Psychology at Bethel University. She worked at Hennepin County Medical Center in the William Jepson Day Treatment Program, Mood and Personality Disorder Track for 24 years from 1996-2020. In 2008, Gail was licensed as a psychologist at the Masters Level (MA,LP). Gail specialized in group therapy and in teaching cognitive behavioral skills specifically Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) and Systems Training for Emotional Predictability and Problem Solving (STEPPS) to clients with depression, anxiety, bipolar, post-traumatic stress, borderline personality, self-harm, suicidal ideation, eating disorders, and substance abuse. All of the coping skills line up with Biblical truth, and being empowered by the Holy Spirit is so helpful to actively engaging in the skills.

Gail grew up in a Christian home and has been a Christ follower since her teen years. Her faith, trust and walk with Jesus have grown primarily through adverse circumstances. Gail’s motto is taken from her church, “passion for Jesus and compassion for people”. The song lyrics “I don’t care if they remember me, only Jesus” describe her desire to let the light of Jesus shine through her to draw others to Jesus.

Gail’s interests include walking, bicycling, swimming, fishing, traveling, spending time with family and friends, and volunteering. Gail has been married to Allen for 28 years. She has two adult children, a son in law, three adult stepchildren, two grandchildren and three step grandchildren. Gail is excited about the opportunity to volunteer at Door of Hope and she prays that Jesus will use her as He brings hope, healing, and restoration.
