David Swan, LMFT, Interim Men's Manager

DaveS9_20_23.jpg

When Diane asked me to consider becoming the interim men's manager, I had to think and pray about it. Over the last year, I have gotten to know the Door of Hope Ministry team. I believe in what they are doing. Recently I agreed to help coordinate the development and expansion of the men’s ministry on an interim,
part-time basis.

The first day that I came into the office to set up shop I felt immediately welcomed by the staff. Honestly, even though it was a new place, it felt like coming home - with such a warm welcome. I’m excited to help by leading a men’s support group entitled Getting Real this fall based on the Authentic Hope manual. Another aspect of my duties is editing the Authentic Hope manual and tailoring its excellent content toward a male audience.  I’m enjoying that work. I also hope to reach out to various churches and men’s ministries over the next several months and see how the services we offer to women can be expanded to serve a larger audience among men.

I came to Christ through the ministry of the Navigators in college. I served as a campus minister for over a decade before going into business. I continued my involvement in ministry through my local church. Then in the early 2000’s, after going through a season of healing with a marriage counselor, I was encouraged to think about becoming a licensed therapist. With a master’s degree under my belt, in 2007, I began to see clients as an associate marriage and family therapist. I became fully licensed in 2016.

I love seeing people connect with God in a way that brings real, deep healing and freedom. In the past three years, I have learned so much about the Immanuel lifestyle and how it helps bring people (including myself) into an interactive healing relationship with Jesus. It has dramatically changed the way I work with my clients. As I have received Immanuel prayer myself, it has opened my relationship with God in deep ways. I have a much stronger awareness of His presence with me and His deep love and acceptance of me - just as I am. It affects my ability to have empathy with my clients and help them feel His love as a source of healing for their own souls. The more I use Immanuel prayer with my clients, the more encouraging examples I have of seeing healing in their lives. It’s like I get a double dose of joy - my own joyful memories and the joyful memories of my clients. I’m looking forward to applying this Immanuel lifestyle in the work I do leading men’s’ groups with Door of Hope Ministries.

How to 101:

  • From either the Trauma Recovery Prayer or Professional Counseling page, click on the orangeSchedule an online or in person” button which will take you to our availability calendar
